„The entire responsibility for the situation in Romania’s agriculture belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture. But Daea is not the only one to blame. I think that in the last period, we had ministers who did not understand their purpose, because at the present time, Romania imports 70% of the basic foodstuffs necessary for Romanian citizens, necessary for our market. So when we look at this picture, we obviously realize that the Ministry of Agriculture simply does not perform and there is no integrated strategy regarding the development of the agricultural economy. That is precisely why we found ourselves in this situation when, being put in an unprecedented context, with new pressures and new challenges, we simply did not know how to manage them, I mean those in charge of agriculture. It is obvious that Mr. Daea is a man out of date, he does not have the ability to adapt and understand the mechanisms of our times“, declared Eugen Tomac, at RFI.
The PMP MEP claims that grain transit from Ukraine should not be banned, but that several aspects should be regulated.
„A series of rules and quite express specifications are needed regarding how these grains are transited, because this was missing from the beginning and it gave rise to this problem. In no case should we ban transit through Romania, because it would mean that we are simply playing a game that no one understands, but clearly these aspects must be better regulated, because practically, we are now flooded with products that do not have customs duties and obviously this issue generates a lot of dissatisfaction among Romanian producers“, the MEP also said.
In his opinion, a meeting of the ministers of Agriculture from the EU is necessary.
„An extraordinary informal meeting of the Council of EU Agriculture Ministers on this subject is vital. We cannot manage this matter bilaterally or unilaterally, it is a European problem and it must be treated as a European problem“, added Eugen Tomac.
