The specialists from the European countries who awarded the way in which a call to 112 was managed in Romania appreciated the way of implementing the technical functionalities of advanced localization that allowed the reception of AML type information for a call made from a non-EU SIM card and in the lack of internet, as well as the fact that the entire conversation was carried out in the Ukrainian language. Practically, a remote 112 operator was introduced in the conference, and the intervention crews were able to quickly reach the person in danger.
At the European 112 Gala, organized by the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), on Wednesday, in Ljubljana in Slovenia, the 112 Emergency Service from Romania received one of the most important European awards in the field of emergencies, following the impeccable management of a call the single emergency number.
“Modern technical functionalities, operational adaptations to the context of the refugee crisis in Ukraine and the professionalism of the staff from the 112 Emergency Service have placed Romania in the top of the best emergency services in Europe.
The ceremony organized by EENA enjoyed the presence of hundreds of specialists from all European states, but also from other continents, including individuals, organizations specifically involved in improving and promoting the European Emergency Number 112, public authorities responsible for emergencies , international organizations and developers of emergency communications solutions”, informs STS.
The “AML & Rescue Award” distinction represents the sixth European award obtained by STS in the 19 years since the single emergency number 112 was implemented in Romania.
The call for which the award was received took place in October last year, when a Ukrainian refugee entered Romania and got lost in the mountainous area of Suceava county in the dark, rain and low visibility. Panicked by the wild animals in the forest, the man called 112 where he reported that he could not give any clues about his whereabouts. Because the caller did not know any foreign language, the call was taken over by a remote STS operator, who conducted the primary interview in Ukrainian and mediated the entire communication between the lost person and the rescue crews. The refugee called 112 from a smartphone with a non-EU SIM card and no internet access. However, the call was accompanied by the AML location and the coordinates were sent in DataSMS format.
The operation of the AML location in Romania, in Roaming and in the absence of the Internet, was possible thanks to the technical configurations made by STS, with the help of mobile operators and Google, in the spring of 2020. In the absence of mobile data, in the IT system of 112 receive the data packets containing the geographic coordinates via SMS. The technical implementations of the 112 System and the operational procedures for taking calls in foreign languages led, in this case, to the rescue of a person.
