Russian ships could sabotage wind farms and communication cables

The details come from a joint survey of public broadcasters in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. They claim that the Russians have a fleet of fishing and survey vessels in the area that carry underwater surveillance equipment and map key sites for possible sabotage.

A Danish counterintelligence officer says sabotage plans are being prepared in the event of a full-scale conflict with the West, while Norway’s intelligence chief said the program is considered very important to Russia.

The investigation used intercepted Russian communications that refer to ghost ships in northern waters. The investigation also focuses on a Russian ship called the Admiral Vladimirsky. Officially, this is an underwater research vessel, but the Norse claim that it is a spy ship.

The investigation was carried out with the help of a former expert of the British Royal Navy who followed the movements of the Russian ship in the vicinity of seven wind farms on the coast of Great Britain and the Netherlands.
