Ukraine receives the first Patriot defense system from Germany. Germany delivered the Patriot air defense system and a set of missiles to Ukraine. In addition, Berlin sent 16 Zetros military trucks and two border protection vehicles.
In January, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged to provide Ukraine with a full Patriot system, which generally consists of four to eight units with four missiles each.
The US also employed two Patriot batteries and, at the end of March, in Oklahoma, completed the training of 65 Ukrainian soldiers in their use, notes First Post.
The Netherlands also pledged two Patriot units.
The MIM-104 Patriot is a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system and the primary system of this type used by the US military and several NATO allies. A Patriot unit is generally composed of a launch station, a control station, a generator, and other support vehicles.
The Patriot’s primary function is to intercept and destroy incoming enemy missiles and rockets. The Patriot system is estimated to cost $1 billion.
