An explosion in the center of the Russian city of Belgorod, located near Ukraine, took place on Thursday evening, the governor of the region announced.

“There was an explosion. At the intersection of one of the central streets, a huge crater with a diameter of 20 meters was formed,” said Viaceslav Gladkov on Telegram.
The Russian Ministry of Defense commented on the explosion in Belgorod.
“On the evening of April 20, during a flight of an Air Force Su-34 plane over the city of Belgorod, an aviation munition accidentally fell,” the ministry said in a statement.
According to the Ministry of Defense, there were no casualties, but buildings were damaged. An investigation is underway.
