At least two people were injured following an explosion on Thursday evening in the Russian city of Belgorod, located near the border with Ukraine, local authorities announced.
The explosion occurred in a residential area, causing significant damage to several blocks of flats. Numerous parked vehicles were damaged.
Viacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, said that two people were hospitalized following the incident, according to the Interfax agency.
“The cause of the incident is under investigation”, stated Viaceslav Gladkov, emphasizing that numerous crews of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations intervened on the spot.
The Russian city of Belgorod is located approximately 30 kilometers from Russia’s border with Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced, according to the daily Le Monde, that the deflagration is the result of the accidental fall of some explosive devices on board a Russian military plane. “There was an abnormal fall of ammunition from a Sukhoi Su-34 plane while passing over the city of Belgorod,” the Ministry of Defense in Moscow reported.
