According to the data of the National Institute of Statistics, Romania ended 2022 with an average net salary of 4,398 lei, an increase of 13.4% in December 2022 compared to December 2021.
At the same time, the annual inflation rate reached 16.4% in the last month of last year, thus again swallowing the wage increases made by the companies on the local market.
In the European Union, the average hourly income in 2022 was 22.9 euros and 25.5 euros in the euro area.
Hungary had the largest increase compared to 2021, of 16.4%, followed by Bulgaria, with 15.5%, and Lithuania, with 13.4%. In fifth place was Poland, with 11.7%.
The lowest growth rates were reported by Denmark (2.2%), Finland, Malta and Italy (2.3%).
At the level of the European Union, wages and hourly earnings increased by 4.6% in industry, by 5.2% in construction and by 5% in services.
