Israeli military experts have met several times in recent months with Ukrainian officials, in Poland, to discuss the installation of the civilian anti-aircraft warning system in Ukraine, said officials cited by the WallaNews website and The Times of Israel.
It is about an anti-aircraft warning system similar to the one used in Israel, but the installations that would be offered to Ukraine will not have interception capabilities. Kiev also asked for interception capabilities, but the Government in Jerusalem refused, in order not to attract Russia’s vehement reaction.
The system would initially be tested in Kiev, in May, after which it will be expanded to other Ukrainian cities.
The Israeli warning system will be connected to Ukrainian military radars and anti-aircraft installations and will send faster and more specific warnings to civilian areas targeted by potential attacks, according to sources cited by Axios.com.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s government refuses to supply Ukraine with weapons, for fear of Russia’s reactions. The Israeli government fears that Russia could react, first of all, by limiting Israel’s ability to carry out attacks on pro-Iranian militant positions in Syria.
