The ITF W60 women’s tennis tournament from Koper Slovenia now has 3 athletes from Romania qualified for the quarter-finals. After Andreea Mitu and Irina Bara, Jaqueline Cristian also managed to qualify among the last 8 contestants.
Cristian (180 WTA) defeated the Slovenian Veronika Erjavec (293 WTA) in the round of 16 on Thursday, with the score of 7-6 (4), 6-4, after an intense match that lasted two hours and 7 minutes.
The match was not at all easy for Cristian, being led 2-4 in the first set and having to save two set points on her own serve, at 5-6.
However, Cristian dominated the tiebreak and in the second set he managed 3 breaks, one more than his opponent, having a 5-2 advantage and missing 4 match points, before securing a place in the quarterfinals, where she will meet Belarusian Kristina Dmitruk (228 WTA).
