NATO allies agree that Ukraine should be accepted into the organization

Stoltenberg told reporters that once the war in Ukraine ends, Kiev must have “the means of deterrence to prevent further attacks”. He also said that currently the main objective is to ensure that Ukraine defeats Russia.

Asked about the prospects of Ukraine joining NATO, Jens Stoltenberg said, according to Sky News: “All NATO allies agreed that Ukraine would become a member. President Zelensky has clear expectations, we discussed the issue of accession and security guarantees, of course Ukraine needs security“.

“Of course no one can know when this war will end or how it will end, but we know that when this war ends, we must make sure that it will not happen again, that Russia will not be able to continue to attack, that it will not launch a war against Ukraine again and that he will not disrupt European security again. So, we need discussions on the security framework, we need a discussion on membership, but my message was that, first of all, Ukraine has its proper role in NATO, the allies agreed, but the focus is now on to make sure that Ukraine wins“.

Previously, Stoltenberg had mentioned on Thursday, during the visit to Kiev, the prospects of Ukraine’s admission to NATO. “Ukraine’s future is in the Euro-Atlantic family, Ukraine’s future is in NATO. All allies agree with this.
