The Foreign Minister of Taiwan stated that the Republic of China is preparing for a possible conflict with the People’s Republic of China.
The invasion would take place in 2027, when the communist regime in Beijing will have military capabilities ready to occupy the island successfully.
Speaking on LBC Tonight with Andrew Marr, Joseph Wu said: “We take the Chinese military threat very seriously… I think 2027 is the year we have to be serious.”
American intelligence services believe that Xi Jinping, the leader of China, ordered that the country’s army be prepared by 2027 for the annexation of Taiwan.
Wu drew an analogy between China and Russia, saying that the world did not take Russia’s aggressive stances seriously in the past.
“We did not prevent Russia from annexing Crimea. And the Russians were encouraged to go ahead and start a war against Ukraine.
We didn’t stop China from imposing national security law on Hong Kong (when Beijing sent troops to brutally repress pro-democracy protests). And people were wondering: Will Taiwan be next? Now Taiwan is feeling all this pressure that it’s going to be next.”
China considers Taiwan, a democratic and autonomous republic, as a province that must be reunited with the mainland.
Since coming to power in 2012, Xi has emphasized that the Taiwan issue “it cannot be transmitted from generation to generation”.
On Friday, China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang said that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to China and that “those who play with fire on Taiwan will eventually be burned.”
Some US officials believe a conflict may come sooner. In January, General Mike Minihan, a former deputy commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, said his “instinct” told him that young Americans would be fighting in the South China Sea in 2025.
In an interview with The Guardian on Tuesday, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said the UK must not “pull down the shutters” on its relationship with China. But lawmakers on both sides of the Atlantic, both in the US Congress and in the British Parliament, are becoming increasingly concerned about the threat China poses to regional and global security.
