All the goals came in an action-packed second half. Jota opened the scoring with a header from a corner in the 47th minute, before Forest equalized through former Liverpool defender Neco Williams in the 51st minute.
Jota also restored Liverpool’s advantage in the 55th minute, but Nottingham equalized again through Gibbs-White, left unmarked (2-2, min. 67).
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was pleased with the result but frustrated by his side’s flimsy defensive performance against a team that has the second-worst attacking record in the league.
“It was a difficult match against a weak defence,” Klopp said at the press conference.
“Too many situations, we couldn’t clear ourselves properly, but apart from that I’m very satisfied.”
Liverpool sealed the win in the 70th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold fed Salah in, the Egyptian striker beating Keylor Navas with an outside shot.
Forest twice came close to grabbing a draw when Taiwo Awoniyi sent over the bar and substitute Brennan Johnson hit the crossbar.
He found Cody Gakpo at a corner on the stroke of half-hour but the striker’s first-half shot was cleared off the line by Williams and he too picked out Jota with a free-kick which the striker headed home in the side net, and the score remained equal at halftime.
It was Alexander-Arnold’s corner that opened the scoring for Liverpool shortly after the restart, putting the Liverpool side on course for a fourth game unbeaten in a row as Klopp’s men reached to 50 points, one behind the sixth-placed Aston Villa.
Following the defeat, Forest dropped to penultimate place in the standings, while Liverpool is 7th, with 50 points and a game less contested than Aston Villa, which is 6th with 51 points.
