More precisely, Romania has 1,828 “superrich” people, the most in the region, even above the level of Poland, a country with double the population. There are about 600 in the Czech Republic, and 235 in Hungary, according to Knight Frank’s Global Wealth Sizing Model study.
According to Knight Frank, those people who have a fortune of over 30 million dollars are considered to be very rich (ultra-high net-worth individuals – UHNWIs). The Global Wealth Sizing Model study looks at how many very wealthy people there are in each of the world’s countries and, as expected, the most are found in the US (210,000), China (99,000) and Japan (31,000), some of the most powerful economies of the world. Then come France or Germany.
Although Romania is far from these values, the number of people considered very rich is increasing, doubling in the last five years, more precisely between 2016 and 2021 (the latest data). Moreover, in the next five years, so until 2026, estimates show that another 700 Romanians will join this select club.
