After the Frenchman Jerome France (Nova Pro) dominated the stage from Râşnov, setting the reference time of the 4-kilometer route, with 01:52.602, being followed by Octavian Ciovică (Radical SR8), everything changed from the first leg of the competition, when the last ones who left on the route had their share of rain.
With a 2:01.220, Costel Căşuneanu (Wolf Mistral) was the fastest on the first leg, while France and Ciovică, in the rain, were more than 20 seconds behind and definitively left the race for the first position. Cosmin Ion (Peugeot 308) and Mihai Leu (Audio R8 GT3) completed the provisional podium of the times in the first leg.
The rain that started right at the end of the first climb and ended before the start of the final forced the pilots to change their strategy. All eyes were on Căşuneanu, who had a good first intermediate time, but he spun near the end and lost no less than 40 seconds, ending up with the worst time of the leg.
Simone Tempestini (Porsche 997 RGT) took advantage of the situation, who from the 5th place went directly to the first position after the two rounds with a total time of 04:17.353. Mihai Leu finished with a total of 7.1 seconds, who competed for the first time with the Audi R8 GT3 LMS model, while the third best time was achieved by Alexandru Piţigoi (Porsche 991) at only 4 thousandths second place.
“The rain helped me, I must admit, to win the stage. I’m happy, especially since the rally championship starts in two weeks. I will compete with the same car and it’s encouraging for me”, said the winner of the round.
Tempestini, Leu and Piţigoi also occupied the podium of Category I, while in Category II, dedicated to single-seaters and two-seaters, the Top 3 was formed by the title champion Octavian Ciovică, Dragoş Savloschi (Radical ProSport) and Răzvan Dragomir (Silver Car S2) .
A total of 37 pilots took the start in the first stage of the Coastal Speed Masters season from Râşnov. The new competition will schedule 5 stages this year, the next being scheduled on Transalpina, between June 10-11.
