The legislative initiative of the USR senator Cristian Bordei by which the members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps of Romania are obliged to know at least two foreign languages, one of which should be English or French, received a favorable report from the Foreign Policy Commission of the Senate.

Favorable report for the initiative that obliges diplomats to know two foreign languages
The initiative is to be voted on in the Senate plenary session on Monday.
The USR senator, secretary of the Senate Foreign Policy Committee, believes that “it is absolutely necessary for diplomats to be able to communicate fluently in several foreign languages, to be able to have a substantive dialogue, without intermediaries, with their counterparts from other states” .
“We see the efforts made by diplomats from many countries to learn the Romanian language before coming to the post, precisely to be able to truly understand what is happening here, not only in politics, but also in culture and in the environment of business. Any Romanian diplomat must be able to speak fluently at least two foreign languages, one of which is of international circulation. It’s not something extraordinary, it’s a minimum condition, a requirement of the job”, states USR senator Cristian Bordei.
