Three people were detained on Monday after the police clashed with supporters of Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera, the founder of the Falange fascist movement in Spain. The violence broke out after the body of the fascist leader was exhumed from a mausoleum near Madrid, according to Reuters.

About 150 supporters of the movement gathered on Monday in front of the San Isidro cemetery in southern Madrid, where Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera was taken to be reburied. They gave the fascist salute and sang the Falangist anthem “Cu faça la soare”. The three detentions were carried out for disturbing public order, according to a police source.
The exhumation, which follows the 2019 removal of dictator Francisco Franco’s remains, is part of a plan to transform the complex Franco built on a mountain near the capital into a memorial for the 500,000 people killed during Spain’s civil war.
The remains of approximately 34,000 people, many of them victims of Franco’s regime, are buried in the complex.
