The government in Kiev imposed a ban on all official international competitions. However, Andriy Pavelko, the head of the Ukrainian Football Federation, published a letter on Facebook in which the Ministry of Sports announces that it allows Ukraine to continue playing in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, even if Belarus also participates in the competition, according to Reuters.
“The national team of Ukraine will continue official matches in the qualifiers for the 2024 European Championship,” Pavelko wrote on Facebook.
Ukraine’s qualification group includes England, Italy, North Macedonia and Malta. Belarus is in Group I, along with Israel, Andorra, Kosovo, Romania and Switzerland.
Ukraine lost the first match of the preliminaries, score 0-2, away to England, who leads the group with six points after two matches. Ukraine’s second match is away on June 16 against North Macedonia.
Russia does not participate in the preliminaries. The team was banned from European tournaments by governing body UEFA.
