“I don’t think it’s good at all (PSD’s proposal regarding the overtaxation of high salaries – no), because if I consider that budget workers have too high salaries, I have to revise the entire salary scheme for budget workers in Romania, I’m not going to create a special system of taxation only for certain budget holders who exceed a certain amount. Either I have a taxation system that concerns absolutely all people who earn income in Romania, or if I have a problem with the high salaries of certain budget officers, I review the salary scheme applied in all public institutions financed from the public budgets of Romania”, says Theodor Stolojan.
When asked about the fact that Nicolae Ciucă did not reject overtaxation in the coalition, Stolojan says: “first of all, Prime Minister Ciucă is doing the right thing, in the sense, sir, let’s see the points of view opposite a proposal”.
“You can’t suddenly reject a proposal made by a ruling party, even if that party is PSD, you do an analysis, come up with counterarguments and say why you don’t agree with such a system. Once again, it is counterproductive to start issuing laws only for certain positions in the budget scheme”, adds the former prime minister.
Theodor Stolojan was also asked about the government’s intention to freeze state employment, after employing thousands of people in the budget sector in a single year.
“Of course the bill is coming. Just think, here, a very old discussion has started in Romania opposite the territorial-administrative units. A Romania that has communes that are left with two to three thousand, four thousand inhabitants, but that maintains an apparatus in the town halls that must be financed all the time with money from the state budget, that is, from the general revenues of the country, that is, territorial units- administrative staff who do not even cover their respective salaries from their own incomes. Once again, we, in Romania, are left behind with reforms that should have been carried out in the last century”, concludes Stolojan.
The correct approach to the taxation area, on the thresholds, of incomes over 25,000 lei, including those obtained from the sum of state salary and pension, Marcel Ciolacu said on Tuesday.
