Zelensky: Xi Jinping expresses “words of support” for grain deal
Chinese leader Xi Jinping expressed “words of support” for the Black Sea Initiative and its continuation, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his April 26 night speech.
“It is very important that China shares our views on freedom of navigation and trade,” Zelenskiy added.
Zelenskiy spoke with Xi Jinping on April 26 for the first time since the start of Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine.
The UN-Turkey-brokered grain deal, first signed in July 2022, has been key to taming rising global food prices.
Russian submarines are “more active” in the Atlantic, despite the current conflict in Ukraine
As Russia continues its fight in Ukraine, the US military notes that Russian forces elsewhere “have not been adversely affected” by the war in Ukraine.
The most important American general in Europe said on Wednesday that Russian submarine patrols have increased throughout the Atlantic.
“One of those forces is their submarine force. It’s hard to talk publicly, as you well know, sir, about submarine warfare and our efforts in that regard. But I can say that the Russians are more active than we’ve seen them in recent years. years, and their patrols in the Atlantic and across the Atlantic are at a high level, often at a higher level than we’ve seen in recent years,” Gen. Christopher Cavoli, commander of US European Command, said Wednesday in front of Committee on Military Services of the House of Representatives.
“And this is happening, as you pointed out, despite all the efforts they are making inside Ukraine,” he said.
“According to the modeling that we have done very carefully with them, the Ukrainians are in a good position,” said the head of the United States European Command, General Christopher Cavoli, adding that the US had worked with them on a possible surprise attack.
Cavoli also said that Russia’s ground forces are larger today “than they were at the beginning of the conflict,” despite suffering numerous losses in its war against Ukraine, according to CNN.
Apart from its ground forces, Russia has a number of options at its disposal, he said.
The air force “lost very little; they lost 80 planes,” he said. “They still have 1,000 fighter jets and fighter bombers.”
“So they’re still using all this conventional power, too, and mixing it all together,” Cavoli said.
