The Kremlin welcomes Xi Jinping’s conversation with Zelensky and suggests that it expects peace initiatives
“We are ready to welcome any action that could allow us to get closer to ending the conflict in Ukraine“, said Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Kremlin, referring to the conversation between the presidents of China and Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned in the conversation with Xi Jinping the possibility of cooperation in the sense of building a framework for a “just and sustainable peace”, but he insisted that the Kyiv Administration will not make any territorial compromises. “We discussed a series of topics related to bilateral relations. Special attention was paid to the potential ways of cooperation to establish a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine. No one wants peace more than the Ukrainian people. We are on our territory and we are fighting for our future, exercising our inalienable right to self-defense. Peace must be just and sustainable, based on the principles of international law and respect for the UN Charter. There can be no peace based on territorial compromises. The territorial integrity of Ukraine must be restored within the 1991 borders“, affirmed Zelensky.
The US presidency welcomed the conversation between the president of China, Xi Jinping, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, but reaffirmed the condition that any peace plan must be fully approved by Kiev and involve respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the Administration in Beijing will focus on promoting peace negotiations and will make efforts to obtain a truce as soon as possible. China will send to Ukraine a delegation led by the Chinese Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs There will also be talks with all parties involved in the conflict.
