There is insufficient evidence to support allegations of sexual harassment, but there is sufficient evidence to support misconduct.
These are the conclusions of the investigation made by the Maltese Football Association, after the complaints filed against the former coach of the island’s national football team, Devis Mangia, 48 years old.
Therefore, the Board of Directors decided that Mangia, who coached Craiova University between 2017-2019, will be temporarily suspended from participating in any football activity in Malta and will have to enroll in a limits course professional, which they must complete within six months.
The chosen course must be approved by a certain authority. The decision was made official on the website of the Maltese Football Federation. The reasons for the sentence will be sent to the parties, and the decision can be appealed.
Mangia was fired last September, after two players from the national team denounced him for allegedly making indecent proposals to them. Consequently, he was suspended, and the case was forwarded to the Police, for further investigations.
Appointed coach of Malta in 2019, with a contract until December 2023, Mangia resigned on 7 November 2022. He has always denied the allegations.
