“The European Commission has reached an agreement in principle with Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia regarding agricultural products from Ukraine. We acted to respond to the concerns of both farmers in neighboring EU countries and Ukraine.” This was announced on Twitter by the vice-president of the EU executive, Valdis Dombrovskis.

In order to calm the anger of the farmers in the 5 affected countries, the European Union committed to unlock a compensatory sum of 100 million euros.
“The key elements of the agreement – explains Dombrovskis -, as agreed with Ukraine, are:
@ the revocation of unilateral measures by Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria;
@ exceptional safeguard measures for four products: wheat, corn, rapeseed, sunflower seeds;
@ EUR 100 million support package for affected farmers in 5 Member States;
@ safeguard investigations on other products, including oil;
@ work is being done to ensure exports to other countries through solidarity channels”.
“I welcome the agreement in principle found regarding the transit of four types of Ukrainian grains and seeds. An agreement that preserves both Ukraine’s export capacity so that it can continue to feed the world, but also the livelihoods of our farmers,” commented EU President Von Der Leyen in another tweet.
I welcome the agreement in principle found on the transit of 4 types of Ukrainian grain and seeds.
A deal that preserves both Ukraine’s exports capacity so it continues feeding the world, and our farmers’ livelihoods.
Thank you @VDombrovskis and @jwojc for your efforts. https://t.co/9TqtuG1gla
