The pedestrian crossings on the streets and boulevards managed by the District 6 City Hall underwent an extensive redevelopment process in 2022. Some were overlit with 2-4 LED projectors. Others were elevated to force drivers to slow down. Many others have been withdrawn, and bollards have been installed around them, so that visibility is no longer blocked by cars stopped/parked irregularly.
Mayor Ciprian Ciucu: “In Sector 6, there are the most overlit pedestrian crossings in all of Bucharest”
„We come up with solutions to support the community, and the safety of citizens is essential. We take street by street, where we administer, and set up pedestrian crossings. We raised them (25), retracted (170), overlit (78), depending on the optimal solution given by the specialists we have at the Urban Mobility Office, within ADPDU Sector 6. Thus, we ended up with the more overlit pedestrian crossings throughout Bucharest, about ten times more than in other sectors. And the policemen from the Road Brigade assured us that the number of accidents has been reduced through their arrangement“, stated the mayor Ciprian Ciucu.
In addition to the 78 overlit crossings, set up last year, this year we proposed to the Traffic Technical Commission and the Road Brigade the approval of the overlighting of another 73 pedestrian crossings, on 36 streets.
