The son of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Nikolai Peskov, held a press conference in which he explained why he decided to fight in Ukraine with the Wagner mercenary force.
“I thought it was my duty… I couldn’t sit on the sidelines and watch my friends and other people go there. While I was engaged in combat, I had to change my last name. Nobody really knew who I was,” Nikolai declared.
The children of Russian government figures and elites have received criticism in the past for not fighting in Ukraine.
But Peskov’s eldest son overturned all expectations: he served in the mercenary army for almost six months and was decorated with the Medal for Courage.
According to the leader of the mercenaries, Yevgeny Prigozhin, Nikolai Peskov served in PMC Wagner for six months under false documents with a different last name, being a gunner in an artillery battalion. Peskov’s son attended a three-week training at their base in Molkino and later went to Luhansk on the front.
