“More than 80 national and European officials responsible for the fight against anti-Semitism, representatives of Jewish communities and international organizations are coming to Bucharest. Bucharest will host, between May 2-4, 2023, the proceedings of the 4th Meeting of the Working Group for the implementation of the European Union Strategy on combating anti-Semitism and promoting Jewish life. Organized by the Government of Romania with the support of the European Commission, the event will enjoy the participation of special representatives, coordinators and those in charge in the field of combating anti-Semitism from EU member states, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as national, European and international organizations of Jewish communities , of relevant international organizations and experts”, announces the Executive.
The opening of the event will take place on Tuesday, at the Victoria Palace, with the participation of Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă, and the Vice-President of the European Commission for the promotion of the European way of life, Margaritis Schinas.
“During the three days, topics of major interest for the fight against anti-Semitism will be addressed, such as the development and implementation of national strategies in the field, the progress made in the implementation of the EU Strategy on the fight against anti-Semitism and the promotion of Jewish life, the dangers posed by anti-Semitism, the distortion and denial of the Holocaust for democratic societies, the importance of preserving the memory of the Holocaust, including the situation in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. The organization, in Bucharest, of the 4th Meeting of the Working Group for the implementation of the EU Strategy for combating anti-Semitism and promoting Jewish life is a good opportunity to highlight the progress that Romania has made in the field of combating anti-Semitism and promoting to Jewish life, but also in recognition of the valuable contribution that the Jewish community in our country brought to the development and modernization of Romanian society”, according to the press release.
On October 5, 2021, the European Union adopted the first Strategy on combating anti-Semitism and promoting Jewish life, which establishes the framework of European policy in this field for the period 2021-2030. The EU strategy has three important pillars: preventing and combating all forms of anti-Semitism, protecting and promoting Jewish life, as well as education, research and the memory of the Holocaust.
