The statement was made on Sunday, but the Pope refused to give details.
„The mission is in progress now, but not yet public. When it’s public, I’ll reveal it“, said Francis.
The sovereign pontiff made these remarks on his return to Rome after a three-day trip to Hungary.
Asked if these meetings could accelerate peace, Francis said that “peace is always made by opening channels, peace can never be made by closing“.
The Pope was also asked if he is willing to help return the Ukrainian children taken to Russia.
“No, no, no: the Holy See is willing to act because it is right, it simply is,” answered the Sovereign Pontiff.
During a discussion with the pope that took place last week, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal asked him for help in returning the children.
Francis also heard testimonies from refugees, many of them from Ukraine, and appealed for solidarity during his visit to Budapest.
