The Russian official, who spoke at the official draw for the 2023 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships, also said that prize money will be doubled for the next edition of the event.
In the Tashkent tournament, which began on Monday and will end on May 14, the gold medalists in each of the 13 weight categories will receive $200,000.
The silver and bronze medalists will earn $100,000 and $50,000, respectively.
“Here we have the biggest prize money – $200,000; $100,000 and $50,000,” Kremlev said.
“Our goal is for more boxers to earn money through their sport. For every boxer prize money, 10 percent will go to the coaches. We must respect our coaches; it is because of you that we have our beautiful sport that is developing .We will also implement prize money at continental federation events.Next year, the prize money will be $400,000 for gold medalists. In 2027, we will increase the prize money to $1 million for first place, $500,000 for second place and $250,000 for third place”.
Kremlev stated that the World Championship in Tashkent will be a “historic” event, which will be marked by fair fights. He stated that the IBA stands for “transparency and fairness” and that the organization will continue to “fight for coaches and athletes”. During last year’s World Women’s Boxing Championships in New Delhi, the Russian promised to double prize money for boxers.
The IBA last year renewed a multimillion-dollar contract with Russian state energy supplier Gazprom, which is considered the governing body’s main source of funding.
In addition to governance and refereeing issues, one of the International Olympic Committee’s main concerns was the IBA’s suspended finances. But Kremlev said his priority was to ensure all boxers were “rich”.
“We will create the best conditions for our beautiful sport,” Kremlev said.
“If parents bring their kids to boxing, I want to make sure they get rich. We’re one of the only organizations that offer such big prize money. We want to make sure the boxers are taken care of and that their future is secured. I also want to introduce cash prizes at the national level”.
