Jimmie Akesson, leader of the Sweden Democrats (right), noted that the power of EU institutions has expanded.
“Practically, German, Polish and French politicians decide what cars we can buy, how expensive gas should be and what trees you can cut down in your own yard,” accused Jimmie Akesson.
The Swedish Democrats Party has no members in the Government in Stockholm, but offers support in Parliament to the governing coalition. Jimmie Akesson did not call for a referendum on Sweden’s withdrawal from the European Union, but he pleaded for the reconfiguration of relations, arguing that the EU is heading in the wrong direction.
“Currently, there are good reasons to seriously reevaluate the membership of the European Union. The electoral process in Sweden will soon cease to have any meaning for the development of Sweden, and of course we cannot allow this,” Jimmie Akesson pointed out, according to the daily Aftonbladet and Reuters agency.
The Swedish Democrats have a share of over 20% in the Stockholm Parliament, and its support is essential for the minority Government formed by the Moderate Party, the Christian Democratic Party and the Liberal Party.
