“Written for radio theater, Cheful suprem is a lesser-known text by the author of Titanic-Vals si …Escu, Tudor Muşatescu, and was performed on the radio by artists such as Dem Rădulescu, Sanda Toma, Alexandru Giugaru, Nineta Gusti, Ştefan Mihăilescu-Brăila in 1969 (artistic direction Constantin Moruzan).
Mounted for the first time on a theater stage, the Supreme Chef production from ARCUB proposes an effervescent show in which comedy of manners combines with musical moments in the directorial vision of theater, opera and ballet creator Beatrice Rancea.
Renowned for her creative approaches to famous texts, Beatrice Rancea signs the adaptation for the stage, the stage movement and the light design of the show and offers the public a contemporary and original interpretation of the dramaturgical text from the 60s”, ARCUB representatives sent.
The decor and costumes of the show are signed by theater and film set designer Maria Miu, with a track record that includes over 200 sets created in more than 50 spaces.
Tudor Muşatescu’s text comes to life on the ARCUB stage in the interpretation of actors Claudiu Istodor, Luminiţa Erga, Cristi Toma, Silviu Biriş, Vlad Linţă, Paula Pârvan and Mona Dobrişan.
One of the unique elements of the production directed by Beatrice Rancea is the inclusion in the cast of the performance of soprano Arlinda Morava and mezzo-soprano Adriana Alexandru who interpret arias from famous operas.
A frothy comedy with bitter reverberations, The Supreme Chef satirically paints a gathering of upstarts, who believe and present themselves to be part of the “good world”. At a party on January 1st, right after the New Year, the news of a possible mushroom poisoning will strike mercilessly and change everything. All those present, relatives and old friends, show their anger, under the threat of imminent death.
They want to spend their last moments in happiness; but the alcohol and the approach of the tragic end untie their tongues and thus things are said that should have remained hidden, accounts are settled, secrets and malice are revealed. The ending is unexpected, precisely because of the candid way in which it reveals greed, pettiness and human stupidity.
