Birgit Malsack-Winkemann of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party hired the fortuneteller as a part-time clerk, Zeit reported, and paid her a salary of around 11,800 euros between July and October 2021.
The news comes as both Malsack-Winkemann and the fortune teller are accused in a lawsuit against a group called the Reichsbürger (Citizens of the Reich), who refuse to recognize the modern German state and seek to replace it with a new authoritarian system . The German state considers Reichsbürger a terrorist organization, POLITICO informs.
Malsack-Winkemann was an AfD deputy from 2017 to 2021, before returning to her work in the judicial service in Berlin in March 2022. She was dismissed as a judge in March 2023 and is currently in pre-trial detention , just like the riddle.
In December, German police thwarted an alleged coup attempt by a far-right group and arrested 25 people. Among the plotters were members of the Reichsbürger movement. According to the investigators, the suspects were planning an armed attack on the Bundestag.
Federal prosecutors said Malsack-Winkemann was supposed to be justice minister in a transitional government after the coup, according to the plotters’ plans.
According to Zeit, Malsack-Winkemann had a semi-automatic rifle and a revolver, a protective vest and night vision equipment at his home.
