“We will have this debate (on the introduction of progressive taxation – no). We must not hide that we will not have this debate. This is not the time to discuss at this moment that progressive taxation will be introduced tomorrow if it were agreed by the coalition. We must not hide from the fact that all international financial institutions recommend Romania to switch to progressive taxation in an average period of time”, says Adrian Câciu.
Asked what an average period means, the Minister of Finance said that it is “three to five years”.
The single tax rate is the friendliest tax formula, PNL spokesman Ionuţ Stroe told RFI.
“There is no question of renouncing the single quota, because PNL is the one that introduced it and continues to support it. The single quota was and still is a tool that worked, it worked in reality, in the economy, where it matters, it is the friendliest fiscal formula, if we can say so, both for citizens and for companies. The collection of a smaller and unique quota at the economy level brought much more money to the budget than this progressive taxation”, says Ionuţ Stroe.
He believes that the progressive taxation desired by the PSD is “an illusion”.
PNL excludes any kind of progressive taxation, PNL vice-president Alina Gorghiu said on Tuesday.
“The position of the PNL is that it excludes any kind of progressive taxation, which is why we are still the party that protects the private environment, private entrepreneurs, employees in the private system, and we do not consider that they should be punished in any way. At the same time, we do not say no to the reduction of some expenses in the public system, which are not justified, but this analysis will have to be done in the Government, by each individual ministry”, says Alina Gorghiu.
