A passionate group of fans, known as SG Ultras, gathered outside the club’s headquarters on Wednesday to voice their grievances. They are disappointed to learn that Messi, after two seasons spent in France, will not extend his contract, expressing chants of the type “Messi, damn it”. Brazil forward Neymar has also come under fire amid a string of fitness and fitness issues this season, with the 31-year-old forward being told to “disappear”.
PSG responded to those who felt the need to express their anger on the streets outside the team’s base in the French capital, saying in a statement published on the club’s official website:
“Paris Saint-Germain condemns in the strongest terms the intolerable and offensive actions of a small group of individuals that took place on Wednesday. Regardless of differences of opinion, nothing justifies such actions. The club offers its full support to its players, its staff and to all those targeted by such shameful behavior.”
Messi has struggled to win the trust of Parisian fans following his 2021 move from Barcelona, with questions being asked about his commitment to the cause, and was handed a two-week ban for making an unauthorized visit to Arabia Saudi.
Neymar, meanwhile, lost the support of many when he openly pushed for a return to Camp Nou shortly after his record €222m transfer in 2017.
PSG fans have also expressed their frustration with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi as the Ligue 1 club are set to defend their title in 2022-23 but have underperformed in the league Champions, despite considerable investments in superstars.
