“After 48 hours of torment and sleeplessness, the mayor of Corbeanca is free to go home”, says lawyer Adrian Cuculis, on Friday evening. According to the lawyer, the court rejected any preventive measure of the DNA.
The mayor of Corbeanca, Ilfov county, Anton Valeriu, was detained on Friday, being accused of taking a bribe for the restitution of some lands.
The DNA prosecutors have announced that they have ordered the criminal investigation and the detention for 24 hours, starting on May 5, 2023, of Anton Valeriu, at the time of the events the mayor of Corbeanca commune, Ilfov county and president of the local Commission for establishing property rights on the lands, for bribery (two acts, one of which in continuous form), money laundering and instigation to money laundering, in continuous form, and of a natural person, for money laundering, in continuous form.
The prosecutors suspect that, in the period 2011-2017, Anton Valeriu, having to settle the request of a person for the restitution of a 45 ha plot of land located in Corbeanca, would have claimed and received from it, through intermediaries (one of them being the other suspect detained ), the amount of 1,418,581 euros, money that would have been remitted after obtaining monetary compensation, as a result of the approval of the file by ANRP
In order to conceal the true provenance of the sums of money received as bribes, at the instigation of the mayor, several authenticated notarial acts were concluded, through which the true beneficiary of the sum of money would have been hidden.
“In a similar context, between September 2011 and July 2019, the suspect Anton Valeriu, in the capacities mentioned above, would have claimed from persons entitled to have various areas of land returned to them, half of the rights claimed in order to carry out the necessary steps with a view to the favorable settlement of the requests submitted by them. After the settlement of the claims, in a similar manner, the suspect Anton Valeriu allegedly came into possession of seven hectares of forest (later sold for the total amount of 1,554,695 euros), nine hectares of arable land (sold in 2019 for the amount of 450,000 euro) and the amount of 475,318 euros”, reports DNA.
