The Conservative Party, of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, registered poor results in the local elections held in the nation of England, part of Great Britain, the main winner being the Labor Party, in opposition, the elections being considered a test before the parliamentary elections.
Preliminary results indicate a considerable advance of the Labor Party (center-left), with 939 local councilors (plus 167 compared to the current situation).
Conservative Party (center-right) obtained 594 seats in local councils (minus 293), according to the partial results.
Liberal-Democratic Party (center-left) obtained 454 councilor seats (in addition to 76), reports BBC News.
Local elections were held on Thursday only in England, one of the four constituent nations of Great Britain. In Northern Ireland, local elections are scheduled for May 18. The local poll in England is considered a test for the parliamentary elections in Great Britain, which will have to be held by January 2025 at the latest.
