The Xi Jinping administration decided to postpone the visit to Beijing of the German Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner, against the background of the dissensions regarding relations with Taiwan and regarding China’s relations with Russia.
China has postponed the visit of a German minister, amid the dissensions
Christian Lindner was to travel to Beijing on an official visit on Wednesday. But the Chinese Ministry of Finance requested the indefinite postponement of the German minister’s visit, announced Berlin officials quoted by the publication Der Spiegel.
Christian Lindner will travel to Asia anyway, to participate in the meeting of finance ministers from the G7 Group, scheduled in Japan.
The reasons why China requested the postponement of Christian Lindner’s visit are not known. But in March, Beijing vehemently criticized the visit to Taiwan by German Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger.
At the end of February, Christian Lindner criticized China’s refusal to sign a draft of the Final Declaration of the G20 Group meeting. Beijing did not accept the condemnation of the Russian military invasion in Ukraine by the statement of the Group of highly developed and emerging nations (G20).
