657 athletes from 99 countries registered for the most important competition of the year. On the mat in the Ali Bin Hamad al-Attiyah Arena Romania will have a delegation of nine athletes: Florentina Ivănescu (-63 kg), Serafima Moscalu (-70 kg) – in the women’s category and Laris Borş (-66 kg), Adrian Şulcă ( -73 kg), Alexandru Raicu (-73 kg), Alex Creţ (-90 kg), Asley Gonzalez (-100 kg), Mircea Croitoru and Vlăduţ Simionescu (both +100 kg) – for men.
They are joined by Alexandra Pop and Alexandra Mazilu who will compete in the mixed team competition. The technical staff consists of trainers Andreica Gianina and Emil Morar, doctor Mirela Pop and physiotherapist Mihai Hanaş.
At the opening ceremony that took place on Monday, the president of the IJF, Marius Vizer, insisted that the Olympic Games should reach Doha “as soon as possible”.
In his speech, Vizer emphasized that sport “has no place for war, politics and discrimination”
“Today we are living a difficult moment, a special confrontation that affects the world order,” said Vizer.
“We have to keep sport safe. Sport has no place for war, politics and discrimination.
“We must come together to be a model for the next generation and to inspire today’s leaders how to bring peace and stability to the world.”
