The French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna, on Wednesday urged China to exert its influence on Russia to make it understand the fact that it would be “at an impasse” and to return “to reason”, in order to stop the military invasion in Ukraine.
“It is necessary for the Chinese Administration to use its relations with Russia to make Russia better understand that it is at an impasse and ask it to come to its senses, for a return to peace, not by continuing the war,” said Catherine Colonna , according to the daily Le Monde, before the meeting, in Paris, with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang.
The two Foreign Ministers “will discuss international crises, especially Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as global stakes, especially in view of the Paris Summit on the topic of the new global financial pact,” said Anne-Claire Legendre, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris.
“China will continue to advocate for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. We will soon send a special emissary for European Affairs to Ukraine. He will also travel to other European countries,” said Qin Gang on Tuesday, during his visit to Germany.
