Texas banned abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy in September 2021.
But almost all abortions have been halted in Texas since Roe v Wade was overturned last summer, except for medical emergencies.
Gabriella Gonzalez was with her boyfriend, 22-year-old Harold Thompson, in a parking lot in Dallas on Wednesday when he tried to choke her.
He had returned from Colorado the night before.
“It is believed that the suspect was the child’s father,” the affidavit reads. “The suspect (Gonzalez) did not want his girlfriend to have the abortion.”
Surveillance video from the parking lot shows Thompson pull out a gun and shoot Gonzalez in the head. She fell to the ground and Thompson shot her several times before running away, the affidavit says.
Thompson was arrested later Wednesday and is being held in the Dallas County Jail. Court records did not list a lawyer who could speak on his behalf, The Guardian reports.
