The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, had a bilateral meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart, MUM Ali Sabry, on Saturday, on the sidelines of the EU Ministerial Forum on the Indo-Pacific region in Stockholm. The two conducted a review of the state of bilateral relations and agreed on capitalizing on opportunities for economic and sectoral cooperation.
Thus, at the proposal of the Romanian Foreign Minister, the two heads of diplomacy agreed to promote cooperation between the ports of Constanta and Colombo, as well as in the IT&C sector, the minister

The two ministers also discussed labor force circulation, including the modernization of the bilateral legal framework. At the same time, the two agreed to stimulate cooperation on the parliamentary line, through friendship groups.
“The senior Sri Lankan official informed about the decision of the Colombo Government to open an embassy in Bucharest during this year and expressed appreciation for the continuity of Romania’s diplomatic representation in Sri Lanka. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, expressed appreciation for this initiative and assured the full support of the Romanian authorities in completing
the process”, says a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the same time, during the discussions, the two ministers encouraged an upward dynamic of collaboration in the field of education, starting from the tradition of this cooperation, but also from the current inter-university collaboration, with diversification potential, including by increasing the presence of students from Sri Lanka to study in Romania.
Also, the high-ranking official from Sri Lanka expressed appreciation for bilateral cooperation in the field of combating corruption, as a priority of the Sri Lankan Government, Minister Bogdan Aurescu offering assurances regarding the continuation of assistance to the Romanian side in this field.
The two ministers also discussed relations with China.
