The health insurance market reached a volume of gross written premiums of 670 million lei, up 35% compared to 2021, maintaining its effervescence, but at the same time the number of contracts, both those in force and new ones , recorded decreases of 42% and 50% in 2022, compared to 2021, according to the information published by the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) in the report on the evolution of the insurance market in 2022.
In the last five years, the health insurance market has maintained an upward trend both in the level of gross premiums subscribed and in the level of compensations paid.
Thus, in the last five years the volume of gross premiums subscribed in the area of health insurance has doubled, while the amount of compensations has reached a level more than double in 2022, namely 361.8 million lei, compared to 164.6 million. lei in 2018. Although the rate of growth was more pronounced on the part of paid compensations, the actual volume is lower than that of subscriptions, remaining over time a share of slightly more than 50% of paid compensations from the total subscriptions registered by the market .
At the same time, the difference between the volume of premiums subscribed by the entire health insurance market and the amount of compensation paid in 2022 is 307.8 million lei, meaning the amount with which the market remains and which it must use to cover the technical reserves, ceding in reinsurance and administrative expenses. In the last five years, the level of the difference between subscriptions and compensations in the area of health insurance increased by 80.6%.
