According to Palestinian sources, Iyad al-Hassani, alias Abu Anas, was targeted by an Israeli air attack in the apartment he was in, in a block located on the outskirts of Gaza City, Ynetnews.com reports.
Iyad al-Hassani was the commander of the Islamic Jihad in charge of military operations and the head of the military council of the Palestinian fundamentalist organization. He is one of the main leaders of the Al-Quds Brigades, the military branch of Islamic Jihad. He was wanted by the Israeli services for 26 years, because of his involvement in a series of attacks. In the air raid carried out on Friday afternoon, Iyad al-Hassani’s personal assistant, Mohammed Abed al-A’al, was also eliminated.
The death of Iyad al-Hassani was confirmed by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant organization. Also, the Israeli army and the Israeli Internal Security Service (Shin Bet) confirmed the elimination of Iyad al-Hassani, according to The Times of Israel.
After this attack, the Israeli Government expects the intensification of rocket attacks launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. In addition, there is the risk of the Hamas organization entering the conflict, which would escalate military confrontations. The balance of the bombings carried out in the last four days by the Israeli army reached 33 dead and 110 wounded in the Gaza Strip. Among the killed are at least 15 Islamist militants.
In Israel, one person was killed on Thursday in a rocket attack on a residential block in the town of Rehovot, located only ten kilometers south of Tel Aviv. Ten other people were injured in this attack, and one in the Sdot Negev area, in the south of the country. Since the beginning of the Israeli attacks on the Islamist positions in the Gaza Strip, 973 rockets were launched from the Palestinian territory towards Israel, of which 296 were intercepted.
