The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, signaled on Monday that the Administration in Paris maintains the availability of supplying ammunition to Ukraine and could train military pilots, but he expressed reluctance regarding the possibility of supplying military aircraft, pleading for the avoidance of a war with Russia.
A day after the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron stated, in an interview given to the TF1 station, that he promised “additional ammunition” and opened the possibility of “training the pilots” of Ukraine, according to the daily Le Monde.
The training of the pilots “would take place together with other European countries that are prepared. I think there are ongoing discussions with the Americans”, emphasized Macron.
But the French leader seemed to rule out the supply of Western fighter jets to Ukraine. Regarding the planes, “the debate would be theoretical”, Macron emphasized.
France will help Ukraine “maintain military vehicles, artillery systems, these are the things Ukraine needs. The success of the counteroffensive will be decisive. But we are not waging a war against Russia. We are not supplying weapons that would allow us to reach Russian territory. And we are not weakening France’s capabilities,” insisted Emmanuel Macron.
