The Ukrainian army has liberated, in recent days, areas around the city of Bahmut, located in the east of the country, announces the Ministry of Defense in Kiev, stating, however, that the Russian military forces are advancing inside the city, informs the daily Le Monde.
“In recent days, our troops have liberated an area of approximately 20 square kilometers on the northern and southern outskirts of the city of Bahmut,” Hanna Maliar, deputy Ukrainian defense minister, said on Tuesday.
“At the same time, the enemy is making progress inside the city of Bahmut, completely destroying the city with the help of artillery. The heavy fighting continues,” admitted Hanna Maliar.

Evgeni Prigojin, the leader of the Russian paramilitary Wagner Group, said on Tuesday, according to CNN, that an American citizen was killed in the fighting in Bahmut. The State Department in Washington announced that it had launched efforts to verify the information. “Our capabilities to verify information regarding the killing of American citizens in Ukraine are very limited,” said a State Department spokesman.
