A Chinese fishing vessel with 39 crew members on board capsized in the Indian Ocean. President Xi Jinping has ordered all efforts to search for survivors, Chinese state media reported on Wednesday, quoted by Reuters.
The fishing vessel “Lupeng Yuanyu 028”, owned by Shandong Province-based Penglai Jinglu Fishery Co Ltd, capsized on Tuesday morning, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The 39 people on board – 17 Chinese crew members, 17 Indonesians and five from the Philippines – are missing, CCTV said.
President Xi said that all efforts must be made for rescue and that early warning alerts on safety risks for long-distance operations will be strengthened, CCTV reported.
China’s maritime search and rescue center has informed neighboring countries about the accident, and the foreign ministry has sent its missions in Australia, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Indonesia, the Philippines and other countries to coordinate search and rescue operations, it said. .
