A man, who had been reported missing, was later found dead during the night in Forlì, living on the ground floor of a house flooded by the waters of the nearby Montone river.
Two other victims are in Ronta di Cesena, where a 70-year-old man was found dead together with his wife.
Another body was found in Cesenatico on the beach, and another victim in a submerged car in the Ravenna area.
Thousands of people were evacuated because of the overflowing rivers.
In Cesena, people had to climb onto the roofs, waiting to be rescued by helicopters.
In Forlì, the mayor announced “the worst situation so far”. Schools were also closed on Wednesday, May 17, in Bologna and in the other affected municipalities.
Between cancellations and delays, train traffic is interrupted in many sections.
Meanwhile, it continues to rain, and the forecast does not promise anything good: a new red weather alert has been issued for Wednesday for a large part of the Emilia-Romagna region, Corriere di Bologna reports.
