The incident took place on Thursday evening, announced the press office of the Holy See.
The car approached one of the entrances to the Vatican and, after the driver was turned away by Swiss guards, he turned “at high speed, forcing the two checkpoints”. A Vatican gendarme fired a shot at the wheels of the car , but he failed to stop her.An alert was issued and all entrances to the Vatican were closed.
The car arrived inside the Vatican “and the man got out alone and was immobilized by the gendarmerie”. The investigators claim that it is a man with mental problems. “He was immediately subjected to a medical examination (…) which found a serious mental alteration” of the driver, the representatives of the Vatican announced.
The driver, whose identity was not specified, was detained and is at the disposal of the judicial authorities, stated the press office of the Holy See.
