The Ukrainian military had stated on Telegram that Russian planes were flying in the air and that there was a threat of Kinzhal hypersonic missile attacks. An earlier military statement indicated that some aerial targets had been shot down, but gave no details.
The army had warned that the central regions and Kiev were in danger because of the drones.
Russian news agency Tass, citing officials stationed in the Moscow-controlled area of Donetsk region, said Ukrainian forces fired eight rockets into the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk after midnight.
There are no details of damage or casualties.
The head of the military administration in Kiev said that Russian forces had sent successive waves of drones towards the capital, the 10th attack this month and the 2nd in less than 24 hours.
“This Kremlin tactic is an attempt to overwhelm our anti-aircraft forces and put psychological pressure on civilians. This will not happen!” wrote Serhiy Popko on Telegram.
