Simona Halep reacts after the new charges
The tennis player used her right to reply on Instagram, where she explained why she is a victim of ITIA policies. Former no. 1 world feels harassed by the way the agency treats her case.
“Since October 7, when I was charged by the ITIA for suspected doping, I have been living the worst nightmare I have ever gone through in my life. Not only has my name been tarnished in the worst possible way, but I am facing with ITIA’s constant determination, for some reason I don’t understand, to prove my guilt when I never even considered taking any illegal substances.I tried twice to get a chance to stand trial by an Independent Tribunal and the ITIA constantly found reasons to delay. Now that I had clearly established that I was a victim of contamination, they came up with a so-called abnormal development of my blood. Three world-renowned experts who told me -they studied the blood tests were extremely clear that my blood was completely normal. I feel helpless in the face of such harassment and motivation on their part to find me guilty of something I never did. Once again, all my life I have been totally against any kind of deception. It does not align with my values,” wrote Simona.
In the recently issued press release, the athlete finally thanked the fans for their unconditional support and has full confidence that justice will follow its normal course.
Initial news
The Romanian is already provisionally suspended from October 2022 because she tested positive for roxadustat, a banned substance, at the US Open last August.
On Friday, ITIA stated that Simona Halep is being investigated “in relation to irregularities in her biological passport – ABP”.
ITIA stated that today’s accusation “is separate from the accusation from the US Open, which triggered the provisional suspension”.
The ABP program is a method by which anti-doping organizations monitor various blood parameters over time to identify potential anti-doping rule violations.
The Athlete Biological Passport was launched by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on 1 December 2009. It is a method of monitoring an athlete’s biological profile over an extended period of time to detect any suspicious deviations or changes that would could indicate the use of prohibited substances or performance improvement methods, according to lcd.gov.ro.
