The Ukrainian president urged the leaders of the Arab League nations to have an “honest perception” of the military conflict sparked by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The Crimean region was the first to suffer the Russian occupation, and most of those repressed in the occupied Crimea are Muslims,” Zelenski claimed.
The president of Ukraine is on Friday at the Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia, as part of international efforts to maintain massive support in the context of the Russian military invasion. “Our priorities are presenting our peace plan and guaranteeing energy security next winter,” Zelenski emphasized.
Saudi Arabia has adopted a relatively neutral position towards the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and in September 2022 brokered a prisoner exchange between the warring parties. Riyadh, the world’s largest oil exporter, coordinates its oil export policies with Moscow, but maintains a strategic partnership with Washington.
