An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 occurred on Saturday in the New Caledonia archipelago, southeast of the Loyalty Islands.
The authorities announced that there is no danger of a tsunami, according to Reuters.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), which reported several aftershocks around the region after the 7.1-magnitude quake, said the quake struck at a depth of about 36 km.
Following the earthquake, Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said there was no tsunami threat for mainland Australia, islands and territories.
On Friday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred in the same area, with a tsunami alert in the South Pacific raised shortly after.
